Tips for Wedding Bouquets

Wedding Bouquets

Wedding bouquets are part of wedding fashion and tradition. Your favorite blooms will create the texture, shape and style for one of the most symbolic and treasured elements of your wedding day. If you are on your journey to create the perfect bouquet, keep reading. We are sharing some tips for wedding bouquets.

The Dress Comes First

There is a little order to wedding fashion. Always choose the dress first. Wedding bouquets must be designed to match the dress. Personal preference and an affinity to certain styles are probably the most persuasive influences, but it must coordinate with the wedding fashion. It is challenging to choose a wedding bouquet before choosing the wedding dress and bridesmaids’ dresses. A simple gown is complimented by a simple bouquet, while a more elaborate wedding dress demands sophistication. The wedding dress supplies the creative boundaries and sets the standards for every accessory to follow.

Wedding Bouquets and Illusions

Wedding bouquets create illusions that require a balance of proportions to match the silhouette of the dress and the bride. If you are considering a long train and veil, you might consider a cascade bouquet. A taller bride can easily carry a cascade of flowers that would overwhelm and hide a shorter bride. In contrast, a shorter bride could pull off a delicate posy of pansies that would be awkwardly unnoticed in the hands of a tall bride. Beyond height and length, every bride has a different shape. If you want to highlight a narrow waistline, choose a narrow bouquet that does not crowd the area with flowers. Avoid blocking the view of elements you want to feature. Always think about the shape, visual impact and placement.

Wedding Bouquets and Style

Wedding bouquets have different styles. If you want something different, you might desire the concentric circles of a biedermeier bouquet, which is created by a single flower type and color. The tailored arrangement creates a tightly bound bunch of flowers. A cascade is a long bouquet that trails downward. A nosegay is the traditional bouquet. It consists of a round bouquet of flowers that is usually tied with a ribbon. A pageant-style bouquet is known as the presentation. The long-stemmed blooms are carried in the crook of the arm. It is commonly seen with a calla lily or a similar floral shape. A sheath is a handful of a single type of flower bound with ribbon, leaving the stems exposed. Tulips and calla lilies are preferred flowers with this elegant wedding bouquet. Become familiar with different styles and shapes.

Designing Wedding Bouquets

Wedding bouquets can be as simple as a grouping of fresh flowers bound and tied with a ribbon or as sophisticated as broaches, rhinestones and pearls. If you want to step away from the traditional and classic bouquet, you might consider integrating fruit or feathers. Some brides embellish their bouquet with wired seashells, charms, ribbons or jewelry. Stems can be intricately wrapped with ribbon.

Keepsakes and Traditions

Traditionally, brides toss the bouquet, but not their actual wedding bouquet. A smaller bouquet is usually designed for the fun and games. Not only would it be dangerous and challenging to toss a large bouquet with wires and designs, but many brides want to create a keepsake with the extravagantly decorated floral arrangement. Preserving wedding bouquets requires proper storage and shipping. Some services will arrange to pick up the bouquet the same night. Overnight shipping requires refrigeration. There are different methods of preservation. The most effective of which is freeze-drying. Flowers are flash-frozen and brought back to room temperature over a period of weeks. Flowers can also be preserved with an air-drying technique or by using silica gel.
