After Your Wedding Day

Wedding Day

Believe it or not, there is a long list of things to do after your wedding day. You will probably be rushing off to the romantic getaway of your life, and the last thing on your mind will be returning the tux and doing paperwork. This checklist of things to do after the wedding ceremony will help you prepare for the next chapter in life.

Save the Wedding Ceremony Bouquet

Sentimental brides want to preserve the bouquet they held during their wedding ceremony. You can choose freeze-drying, silica gel, air-drying or pressing to create your keepsake. All options require important shipping instructions to transport the delicate flowers to be preserved. Some companies will provide the additional service of picking up the flowers during the reception. Make sure you have a plan for preserving your flowers.

Wedding Day Returns

The wedding day is mostly rented, which requires returns. You will be deep in romance on the day after your wedding, and returning the tux will be the farthest thing from your mind. Returns should probably be delegated to trusted members in your wedding party. Make a list of every item, such as the tux, tables, and chinaware. Make notes that clearly state where items are to be returned and the due date for each return.

Wedding Day Money

Money is a popular and much appreciated wedding gift. Wishing wells and card boxes create a pile to sort and organize. Give this fiduciary duty to a responsible someone. Give them instructions to hold the money or make deposits to your account while you are away on your honeymoon. It is not recommended that you take large amounts of money with you on the magical adventure. Make sure the person you trust to hold or deposit the funds makes a list of the gift-givers’ names and amounts given for the thank you notes.

Visiting the Cleaners

You should have your dress professionally cleaned the day after your wedding day to avoid allowing stains to set in the fabric. Make sure you choose a reputable dry cleaner. It is a good idea to give this task to a trusted person in your wedding party.

Storing the Wedding Dress

You will probably want to preserve your keepsake or heirloom for many years to come. When your dress is picked up from the cleaners, you will need to decide where and how to store it. Make sure you store it in a dry place that is out of the direct sunlight. It is recommended that it is preserved in an acid-free box.

Wedding Day Thanks

Everyone that attended on your wedding day should receive a special thank you for being part of your once in a lifetime moments. Most guests brought a gift. You should give a special thanks for all gifts given. Mention the gift in the thank you note to make each card unique. Take out the list of those that gifted money, and make sure they receive a special thank you.

Important Changes

After your wedding day, you will go home to a few changes. If you moved, make sure you change your address at the post office and request a forward of mail. Contact your banking institutions, schools, jobs and lenders to update your contact information. Do not forget to update your new name on your voter registration card, driver’s license, social security card, deeds, titles, bank accounts, credit cards, and basically everywhere it has ever been written. It is a good idea to handle this task as soon as possible, before the excitement wears off and it feels like work.

Wedding Day Cake

A year after your wedding day, you will be celebrating an exciting one year anniversary. Most couples choose to preserve the top tier of their wedding cake in a freezer to cut and eat on the special occasion. Make sure you wrap the top tier in plastic and store it properly in the freezer to avoid freezer burn. This might be a task you delegate to the mother of the bride. You can transfer to your own freezer when you return from your honeymoon.
