Planning Your Wedding Makeup

Wedding makeup does not need to be complicated; however, most brides want a professional artist to help them look perfect on their wedding day. Even if you feel absolutely confident about doing your own makeup, you might want to be pampered on your wedding day. We are sharing a few tips and tricks to planning your wedding makeup.

Prepare for Your Wedding Makeup

Wedding makeup is more than the application on the day of your wedding. Brides and the entire wedding party start preparing their skin with treatments and facials months prior to the event. Avoid chemical skin treatments a few months before the wedding. A week before the wedding, you might consider waxing and tanning. Always use a professional for these services to avoid embarrassing mistakes. It is important to keep in mind that wedding makeup is unlike a typical appointment with a stylist. Your wedding makeup will take between half an hour and 45 minutes. If your wedding party requires hair and makeup, that should be factored into the timeline.

Achieving the Natural Look

We all have our own goals with our wedding makeup. However, most brides want to play it safe with a natural look. Avoid caking makeup that drags down features and falls into creases and lines. Wedding makeup should appear flawless under every light. It should be bright and allow your radiant skin to show through. Each bride has a unique skin type and different coverage needs. A professional wedding makeup artist can provide skincare consultations and mix foundation to meet your specific needs.

Mixing Foundation for Specific Needs

Professional foundation can be mixed for a perfect skin match. There are different types of skin, tones and coverage needs to consider. Airbrush makeup can provide a light and flawless look. A special full coverage makeup is used to camouflage tattoos and scars. Some brides desire body makeup. The lightest coverage can be achieved with a tinted moisturizer. Gel foundation in a semi-matte will work best with oily skin. Mineral makeup works for most skin types; however, it does not provide a long-lasting wear. The powder can fall into creases and fine lines. The length of the wear will be important on your wedding day. A primer beneath the foundation can keep makeup looking fresh longer. As with all things, a good foundation is the most important thing.

Highlighting Your Wedding Makeup

Makeup evens out the skin and creates illusions with shading. Highlighter and bronzer can enhance and define features. A light dust of bronzer over the forehead, cheekbones and jawline adds definition and a little color that appears natural. Highlighter creates a light glistening glow that when applied to the cheekbones and the bridge of the nose can lighten features and make them pop.

Working with Blush

Blush can be easily misunderstood. It is supposed to create a natural flush look of the skin, but shade, placement and amount can make things go very wrong. It should be blended well to avoid streaks. Placement is critical and will change the entire shape of your face. Blush needs to be tailored for your skin type, tone and undertone. Depending on the shape of your face, you might apply on the apple of your cheek and blend upward towards the ear or apply higher on the cheekbone and more in the contour to create a higher lift. Experiment with different types, shades and placements before your wedding day to see what looks best on you.

Eyeshadow Tricks

There are eyeshadow tricks to suit the occasion. The goal of eyeshadow is usually to widen eyes and create a brighter appearance. The color, shade and texture should be matched with the shape and color of your eyes. Light shadows will pop, while dark shadows create depth. Neutral shades like suede can be blended into the crease and upper lid. Shimmer adds sparkle. Champagne, pink, bronze and golds in the crease and upper lids adds a little gleam and dimension. Pale shades in the crease and upper lid create a sophisticated look, especially when paired with charcoal eyeliner close to the lash line.
